Sources & research

Baptised 1896 Stoke St Gregory [FreeREG parish register, Chedzoy spelling]. (Documented Chedgzoy not yet linked to parents.) Fivehead Friendly Society (probable): a Herbert Chedzoy proposed the toast to "The Bishop, Clergy and Ministers" at the 1922 Club Day; his father was the customary toast-giver but was absent through illness that year. The society (1865-1939) was a pre-NHS mutual-aid "sick club" paying members during illness and for funerals. Match by name, locality and age (probable). NOTE: two Herbert John Chedzoys exist, #156 (b.1893, registered Birmingham) and this #745 (b.1896, Stoke St Gregory); the local #745 is the better fit but not confirmed. FUTURE RESEARCH: confirm which Herbert, and identify his father (a leading society member). Source: fivehead-village.org.uk
