Sources & research

Chris's maternal grandfather. Born 1900 at Hall Green, Birmingham; died 1963. He was in INDIA in 1933, where he married Hazel Olga Faciolle (#1886) [marriage #67]. A Birmingham man in India at that date most likely means military service (the British Army garrisoned in India) or colonial employment - to confirm from his service record / India Office records. The couple returned to England, where daughter Hazel Olive (#1725, Chris's mother) was born 1934. After Hazel Olga left the family he remarried and had more children. RESEARCH LEADS - THE INDIA QUESTION (16 Jun 2026): why a Birmingham man (b.1900 Hall Green) was in India in 1933 is not yet resolved. Most likely British Army service (a regiment garrisoned in India between the wars) or colonial employment. To pursue: (1) the 1933 India marriage record itself - the groom's rank/occupation would answer it - in 'India, Marriages 1792-1948' / British India Office collections (not yet located via fuzzy search; try the bride Hazel Olga Faciolle, Bengal); (2) his 1939 Register entry for his post-India occupation; (3) British Army service records; (4) the 1911 census for his Hall Green childhood. His full life (1900-1963) is a focused session of its own. {CENSUS} Married-in spouse (non-Chedgzoy surname); their census trail is under their own surname before marriage, then in the Chedgzoy household after. Spouse-derived; individual records a later mop-up. [Ancestry, transcription pass].
