Sources & research

Richard Thomas Chedgzoy, b. ~1885/1886, Pontypridd, Glamorgan. 1911 Wales Census (TNA RG14 piece 32523, schedule 324): head of household, age 26, at 145a Glanaman Rd, Cwmaman, near Aberdare; wife Elizabeth Jane (23); children Margaret Jane (5, = #788), Evan/Ivan Henry (4, = #793) and Selina May (1, = #800). [Ancestry, 1911 Wales Census coll. 2353]. Part of the broad SOUTH WALES Chedzoy/Chedgzoy diaspora (several Somerset families migrated to the Glamorgan coalfield - Pontypridd, Cardiff, Mountain Ash, Llantrisant, Swansea, St Athan - they are NOT all one family). Richard Thomas's OWN father is NOT yet established, and WHICH founder family he belongs to is UNPROVEN. A leading (but unconfirmed) hypothesis is the Pontypridd family of branch-founder James Chedgzoy #1668 (b.1822 Stoke St Gregory); other Welsh Chedzoy families are equally possible until a record connects him. He does not surface by name in the 1891/1901 censuses (surname mistranscribed - Chedzoy/Chedzey/Chadroy/Chidzay), so the rung needs either an IMAGE browse of the 1891 Pontypridd Chedzoy households or his 1886 Pontypridd birth certificate (which would name his father). Do NOT assert a trunk link until then. Significance: grandfather of Kelvin Chedgzoy (#243) and great-grandfather of Prof. Kate (Catherine Sarah) Chedgzoy - see research/kate-chedgzoy-link.md.
