[2026-06-13 Ancestry] DEATH CONFIRMED: died 12 Feb 1950, Taunton, SOMERSET (aged 70). >>> WATCH: a tree shows death place "Taunton, Bristol, Massachusetts, USA" -- that is an Ancestry auto-place ARTIFACT (Taunton sits in Bristol County, MA); he did NOT emigrate -- the 1939 Register places him in Somerset, and Find A Grave + tree give Taunton (Somerset). Born 13 Mar 1879 SSG (GRO Birth Index Apr 1879 Taunton, as Howard John P Chedzoy). Married Florence May Adams (Q2 1907, Axminster, Devon). Census: 1881/1891 SSG, 1901/1911 Fivehead/Swell, 1921+1939 Somerset. >>> His middle name "Pipe" (Howard John PIPE Chedzoy, per baptism) confirms his mother = Elizabeth Ann Sophia PIPE -- so the DB mother surname "Pope" for the George Charles children (#172,#173,#174) should be corrected to PIPE.
[2026-06-13 cleanup] Merged duplicate #667 ("Howard John Pope Chedzoy", a FreeREG baptism capture) into this record -- same man (Pope = misread of mother's maiden Pipe). FreeREG shows a baptism 1882 Stoke St Gregory; note this is ~3y after his 1879 GRO birth (late/group baptism, or a FreeREG year slip) -- confirm against the register image.

Married Florence May Adams (ties to the SSG Adams family, #1823-1832). Census 1881, 1891 at SSG (with brother Herbert = #172), 1901 Fivehead, 1911 Swell/Fivehead, 1921 Somerset, 1939 Register Somerset. Died Feb 1950 (Find A Grave 12 Feb 1950; Death Index Jan 1950 Weymouth; confirms our 1950). NB one external tree mistakenly records his death place as Massachusetts USA - the English records say otherwise. [Ancestry, transcription pass].
