DIRECT LINE, gen-8 (Chris's great-great-grandfather). Born 24 Oct 1861 at 20 Caroline Place, Islington, London; birth registered Islington Oct-Dec 1861 (GRO 1b/205). Mother: Sarah Caroline oDell (#1737). Married Mary Ann Durber; their son Harry (#6) was born 1896 in Birmingham. His father - Chris's true gen-7 ancestor - is currently mis-recorded as the infant John #19 (impossible). The real father is a John Chedgzoy who was in London by 1861 and married Sarah Caroline oDell. That John has NOT yet been identified by record: he needs finding in the 1861/1871 census (the surname is badly mangled in London returns) or via John James's birth certificate / the parents' marriage certificate, which would name John's own father and reconnect (or not) to the Stoke St Gregory line. The family's path so far: Somerset -> London (1861) -> Birmingham (1896) -> Redditch. Death registered Apr-Jun 1924, Aston registration district, Birmingham, as John Chedgzoy b.~1861. Source: England & Wales Civil Registration Death Index 1916-2007 (GRO; Ancestry collection 7579), retrieved 11 Jun 2026. He had lived at Aston/Duddeston across the 1901 and 1911 censuses. [2026-06-13 Ancestry] Own vitals corroborated by GRO indexes: BIRTH Oct 1861 Islington, London (GRO Birth Index 1837-1915); DEATH Apr 1924 Aston, Warwickshire (GRO Death Index 1916-2007). Parents per Muston tree: father John Chedgzoy (=#19, see his record), mother Sarah Caroline O Dell. Spouse Mary Anne Durber. The father link (#19) is correct; only #19 own death date is mis-recorded (see #19 note). Direct-line gen-8. [2026-06-14 census] 1901: RG13/2880 f65 p34 Aston/Erdington (9 children in household). 1911: RG14/18242, 7 Bk of 8 Gt Francis St, Duddeston, Birmingham; occupation BRASS POLISHER; 5 children at home (Alice, Ada, Harry, Emily, Dolly). Children verified against both censuses this pass. {CENSUS} Direct line, well documented. Birth Index Oct 1861 Islington, London (b.14 Oct 1861); son of John Chedgzoy (#2057) + Sarah Caroline oDell (#1737) - confirms that parentage. Married Mary Ann Durber (#1728) in Birmingham; daughter Doris (Dolly). 1911 census at Aston; 1921 census in Warwickshire (recorded b.Birmingham). Died Apr 1924 at Aston, Warwickshire (Death Index). The familys move from London/Somerset into Aston, Birmingham. [Ancestry, transcription pass]. {TRANSCRIPTION} 1911 Census, Aston Birmingham (sch.1655), John Chedgzoy household: John (head, ~49, brass polisher, b.London/Islington); Mary Ann (wife, 46, burnisher, b.Alcester; married 28 yrs, 7 children born/6 living); Alice (dau 18, umbrella framer[?]); Ada (dau 16, umbrella polisher iron[?]); Harry (son 15, roller mills iron - Chris grandfather); Emily (dau 12, school); Dolly (dau 6, school). All children b.Birmingham. The 7-born/6-living line means one child had died by 1911. {BMD} Death Q2 1924 Aston, age 63, GRO 6d/519 [FreeBMD, Chedgzoy, 22 Jun 2026]. {BMD} Birth reg Q4 1861 Islington, GRO 1b/205 [FreeBMD, 22 Jun 2026].
