[Ancestry]. {MARRIAGE} Harry married Edith A(nnie) Clifford, registered Apr-Jun 1917 at Aston, Warwickshire [Civil Reg. Marriage Index 1916-2005; also a Birmingham C of E Marriages/Banns entry]. He was still a serving soldier (discharged Oct 1917). {NAME THORNE} In later life Edith was known as EDITH THORNE (with Albert Thorne) - firsthand family memory (she was known and visited as Mrs Thorne). This is the key to her death record, which is indexed under Thorne. Their marriage is now documented: Edith married ALBERT THORNE, registered Apr-Jun 1957 at Birmingham, GRO ref 9c/804 [England & Wales Civil Reg. Marriage Index 1916-2005]. She married as Edith A Chedgzoy (her first-married name, not reverting to Clifford) and became Edith Thorne, which is why her 1984 death indexes under Thorne. The marriage was registered about six months after the death of Harry (Oct 1956), so on the record she married Albert Thorne as a widow. {DEATH - CONFIRMED} EDITH ANNIE THORNE, born 12 Sep 1896, DIED May 1984 at Birmingham, aged 87 [England & Wales Civil Reg. Death Index 1916-2007]. Her exact date of birth is therefore 12 Sep 1896. This is inferred (firmly) from the Montreal birth of her daughter Phyllis May on 25 Mar 1924: she had to be in Montreal to bear her. Her husband Harry #6 appears in Ancestry arrival/passenger indexes for the 1919-1924 Canada window, with the family returning by ship Montreal to Liverpool. A passenger manifest naming Edith herself has not been read (those collections are paywalled on the current tier), so her own travel record is not yet captured, but her presence in Canada is not in doubt.
