Sources & research

Wife of Robert Chedzoy, the founding couple at Stoke St Gregory. Her forename Elizabeth is confirmed as the mother on three baptism records: Robert (1665/6), Alexander (1667/8) and Judith (1671). [FreeREG] An Elizabeth Chedzoy was buried at Stoke St Gregory on 4 Nov 1722 - a likely candidate for her, though not confirmed. Corroborated by the Stoke St Gregory village history (Stoke St Gregory history). FamilySearch corroboration (16 Jun 2026): the same parish index ('England, Somerset, Church Records, 1501-1999') records an Elizabeth Chedzoy buried at Stoke St Gregory on 4 Nov 1722, the only Elizabeth Chedzoy burial there in 1718-1726, which strengthens the identification with her, though it is still not proven. No marriage record was found, so her maiden name remains unknown.
