Sources & research
Inferred son of Robert Chedzoy and Elizabeth, the founding couple at Stoke St Gregory (whose recorded children were Edward 1663, Robert 1665/6 and Alexander 1667/8). Walter (b. c.1661) fits the same family and era, but his own baptism is not transcribed under either spelling (searched 1655-1712), as it predates the surviving register, so his parentage is inferred rather than record-confirmed. [FreeREG] Married twice at Stoke St Gregory: (1) Elizabeth Ivery/Ivory, 9 Feb 1690/1 (she was buried there in January 1700/1); (2) Martha Musgrove, 30 Nov 1701. By Elizabeth Ivory his son was Joseph (b.1693, #38); by Martha Musgrove his children were Eleanor (1702, #39), Walter (1705, #31) and others. Joseph and the direct-line Walter are therefore half-brothers, and the Joseph branch rejoins the direct line at this Walter. [FreeREG] Open question on the deeper origin: the line used the CHEDSEY spelling at this depth, and Chedsey is a distinct West Somerset cluster (St Decumans and the Quantocks) documented from 1606, earlier than Robert Chedzoy, so the origin may run up the Chedsey line rather than ending at Robert. Pending earlier records.
