Son of Walter Chedzoy (Chedsey) and his first wife Elizabeth Ivory, who married 9 Feb 1690/1 at Stoke St Gregory. Half-brother of the direct-line Walter (b.1705, by Walter's second wife Martha Musgrove), so this branch rejoins the direct line at their shared father Walter. Baptised 1693. [FreeREG] Married Hannah Andrews on 22 Jan 1723/4 at Stoke St Gregory (recorded under the Chedsey spelling): FreeREG record . Children at Stoke St Gregory: (1) Joseph, baptised 27 Dec 1726, who died an infant, buried 15 Jan 1726/7 (FreeREG record); (2) Joseph, baptised 22 Aug 1732, the name reused after the first died (FreeREG record); (3) Bettey, baptised 9 Mar 1734/5 (FreeREG record). CORRECTION (10 Jun 2026): the earlier 'buried 1726' recorded against Joseph was in fact his infant son's burial, not his own. Joseph was alive and fathering children in 1732 and 1734/5, so that death has been removed. A Joseph Chedzoy was buried at Stoke St Gregory on 22 Feb 1740/1 (FreeREG record); this is his probable death, but the record gives no age so it could instead be his son Joseph (b.1732), so it is left as a candidate, not a confirmed date. Note: the 1731, 1733 and 1735 Chedzoy baptisms at Stoke St Gregory (Isachar, Achsah, Levi) belong to his brother Walter and Jane Goodridge, not to Joseph. Birthplace/baptism: no baptism for Joseph has been found in FreeREG at Stoke St Gregory under either the Chedzoy or Chedsey spelling, 1690-1716. The parish register has illegible and missing entries across roughly 1690-1708 (many records survive only as unreadable fragments), so his baptism was most likely recorded but is now untranscribed. His birth year (c. 1693) is therefore an estimate, not a confirmed baptism. His birthplace is almost certainly Stoke St Gregory: his parents married there (9 Feb 1690/1), his mother Elizabeth (Ivery) was buried there (28 Jan 1700/1, which fits his father remarrying in 1701), and Joseph himself married and baptised all his children there. Recorded as inferred, not confirmed.
