Sources & research

Son of Levi Chedzoy (#50) and Mary Champion, born about 1796. His baptism is not in the transcripts (it falls in the earlier register gap), so the birth year is carried from WikiTree and the GEDCOM. Married Sarah Wilment on 18 Jul 1818 at Stoke St Gregory, both of that parish (entry 60; Sarah signed with a mark, witnesses T. A. Gent and Hannah Chedgzoy). He had earlier, in 1821, witnessed his sister Ann's marriage as "James Chedgzoy". The marriage is under the CHEDGZOY spelling (this corrects an earlier note that wrongly called it unverified). FreeREG record Children of James and Sarah baptised at Stoke St Gregory include Elizabeth Wilment Chedgzoy (1819) and further Chedgzoy baptisms in the 1820s. His death is not yet documented. Death from Sue Froud's family-tree transcription (15 Jun 2026): James Chedzoy, son of Levi (1765) and Mary Champion, mason and later Sexton of Stoke St Gregory church, married Sarah Wilmont 1818, made a will a month before his death and was buried at Stoke St Gregory on 14 Aug 1862, aged 67. Parent link (Levi #50) matches Sue's identification.
