Sources & research
Daughter of Levi Chedzoy (#50) and Mary Champion, baptised 4 Jun 1804 at Stoke St Gregory (recorded under the CHEDGZOY spelling, aged about 5; born c. 1799), on the same day as her brother Charles. Married John Chedzoy on 15 Oct 1821 at Stoke St Gregory (entry 85). She signed the register as CHEDGZOY even though the clerk wrote CHEDZOY, and her brother James Chedgzoy was a witness, which confirms her identity. The Chedgzoy spelling was already in use in the wider family by 1803 (her uncle William #53 married as Chedgzoy that year), so this is not where the name changed; rather it is a clear instance of a family member personally adopting the spelling, not just a parish clerk. FreeREG record She died in the Taunton registration district in 1886, aged about 85 (GRO ref 5c/221, FreeBMD). Earlier marriages to Lewis Owens (1814) and Thomas Gibbs (1821) in the imported data belong to other Ann Chedzoys and are not hers.
